UKRAINIAN NATIONAL WOMEN’S LEAGUE OF AMERICA, Br. 56.

Founded in 1991 it is the largest branch of the UNWLA in America with 90 members.

It is active in Ukrainian and American communities of Southwest Florida.

It supports the national UNWLA’s sponsorship of The Ukrainian Museum in New York City and the monthly magazine, “OUR LIFE,” as well as contributes to the UNWLA scholarship fund, orphans’ fund and aid to the aged in Ukraine. It presents programs on Holodomor and Chornobyl in local public libraries, sets up exhibits of Ukrainian arts and crafts and presents pysanka demonstrations throughout the area. It also holds a yearly dinner dance, annual picnic and sponsors its own choir.

UKRAINIAN AMERICAN CLUB

The Ukrainian American Club of Southwest Florida was formed to create an opportunity for members to acquaint the American community with Ukrainian culture, history, art, dance and music. The club also provides an opportunity, for those who wish, to learn Ukrainian language. UKRAINIAN AMERICAN VETERANS, Post #40

Ukrainian American Veterans Roman G. Lazor Post #40 North Port, FL was chartered in 1999 and currently has 39 members including two active duty members. UAV National was established in 1948, and is an American patriotic organization composed of Honorably Discharged Veterans of the United States Armed Forces, who are of Ukrainian heritage Descent. Its mission is to unite these veterans and to sustain the Constitution, Government and Laws of the United States. It also provides veterans assistance through welfare programs and scholarships.

UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE SOCIETY

The Society was established in 1990 to help Ukraine acquire Ukrainian books and magazines published outside the Soviet Union. To date 132,810 books were sent to “Prosvita” Centers in all 25 oblasts, children’s libraries, university libraries and general libraries. ULS is funding publications in Ukrainian language and awards scholarships to students who study Ukrainian linguistics, literature or history.

UKRAINIAN CONGRESS COMMITTEE OF AMERICA, INC

UCC is the umbrella organization for over 20 Ukrainian organizations and has 75 branches throughout the United States. Each branch is formed and sustained by local volunteer boards, representative of local organizations and members at large. Its mission is to support cultural, educational and humanitarian activities that emphasize the Ukrainian American heritage and provide support for the newly developing democracy in Ukraine.

MEN’S SOCIAL CLUB

The Men’s Social Club was organized in 2011 as a social gathering for members. Activities include monthly luncheons at local restaurants, attendance at arts and entertainment performances, planning and organizing New Year celebrations, excursion trips and other activities of interest to the members. Members also share information on financial matters, investments and other current items of interest.

One of the most important current activity of the Club is the sponsorship of this website.

ST. ANDREW’S RELIGIOUS and CULTURAL CENTER

The St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Religious and Cultural Center, as local Ukrainians call Oseredok, is truly a place where the majority of civic, cultural and social activities of the Southwest Florida Ukrainian American community take place. It is home to the Ukrainian American Club of Southwest Florida, the Ukrainian American Veterans Post #40, Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, Br. 56, the Senator Paul Yuzyk library and the St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Church where the Southwest Florida Ukrainian Orthodox faithful worship. The Oseredok holds bazaars, dances, commemorative assemblies, art exhibits, weekly senior card parties and even wedding receptions and on occasion, outside worship services by religious groups.

COMMUNITY CHOIRS

Ukrainians by nature enjoy an innate love of music and song. Here , in Southwest Florida, this tradition is preserved. There are three choirs directed by Lubow Dobrowolska Ingram: the St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church choir, Soyuz Ukrainok choir and the United Community choir. The choirs contribute to programs celebrating Ukrainian Independence, Unification of Ukraine, commemoration of Holodomor and Chornobyl, and celebrations honoring Taras Shevchenko.​
